What is the relationship between v2rayN and V2Ray?
V2Ray (and its fork Xray) is the command-line core that handles encrypted transport; it has no interface of its own. v2rayN is a Windows graphical client wrapped around that core, handling node management, subscription updates and system proxy settings. The full v2rayN package already bundles the core, so you don't need to install V2Ray separately.
The releases page has many files — which one do I download?
Windows users should pick the 64-bit build labelled SelfContained, unzip it and run v2rayN.exe directly — no .NET runtime required. Builds without “SelfContained” are smaller but need the .NET 8 desktop runtime already installed.
My browser or antivirus flags the download — what should I do?
Proxy tools often trigger false positives because they change system proxy settings and bundle a core executable. As long as you download from official sources and verify the SHA256 hash, it's safe to whitelist. Never use unofficial “portable” or “cracked” builds.
After installing there are no nodes and it won't connect?
The client is only a tool — it doesn't provide any servers. You need to set up your own server (VMess / VLESS / Trojan, etc.) or obtain a subscription link from a provider, then import it into the client.
